Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the news that the Lochaber Environmental Group has been successfully awarded £89,594 from the 20th round of the Climate Challenge Fund (CCF).
This funding will help communities across Lochaber to reduce carbon emissions through the Carbon Reduction Lochaber Project, with energy information sessions being run in schools and extra support made available to help households and small to medium enterprises reduce their energy use and assist them towards lower carbon travel options.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said,
"I welcome this significant award of £89,594 for Lochaber Environmental Group, which I have no doubt will help further their aims towards reducing the carbon footprint of the Lochaber and the surrounding area".
Dave went on,
"We know that education is a key factor in forming habits that young folk take into their adult lives so it is particularly pleasing to learn that there will be energy information sessions run in schools.
This will help facilitate an ethos of carbon footprint reduction that they can carry forward into their future lives, which in turn will bring environmental benefits to the community at large".
Notes:
The CCF Provides funds and support for community groups to run projects that take direct action on climate change and help reduce their community's carbon footprint.
These projects have also provided opportunities for jobs and training while helping to save money on energy and fuel.
