Dave Thompson, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is looking forward to welcoming the Olympic torch to the constituency as Highland towns host the torch in June.
On Saturday 9 June and Monday 11 June, the torch will pass through Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch. Travelling up the A82, the torch will stop at Glencoe, Ballachulish, Fort William, Spean Bridge, Fort Augustus, Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit on Saturday. The torch will then travel to other parts of Scotland before it travels down the A9 and visits Aviemore back in the constituency on Monday.
Mr Thompson said, “A total of 8,000 torchbearers will carry the Olympic torch as it travels throughout the British Isles on a 70-day journey. For two days out of the two months that it is on the road, the torch will pass through the constituency.
“The eyes of the world are on the preparations for the Olympic Games and so this is an exciting event for the towns that will host the torch and for all of us who will watch it go past. It is an exciting milestone on the road to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
