Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the announcement that Scotland Transerv are to carry out improvements on the A9 cycleway.
Commenting on this, Dave said: “I am pleased that as well as the on-going work to dual the A9, the cycleway will also be improved. Making the route more accessible to cyclists and disabled walkers is very welcome, and I hope that this will be the first of many improvements to cycling facilities on the A9.
Four of the existing access gates are to be replaced with new ‘York’ style galvanised steel gates which have been designed to accommodate disabled walkers and cyclists.
The works commenced on the 18th March and should take around 2 weeks to complete.
Adding to this, Dave said: “I wrote to Highland Council highlighting the need for a number of smaller improvements to the cycleway around Drumochter, following a meeting with Transport Scotland, Sustrans and Scotland Transerv where a long term commitment to improve the standard of the route was reached.
“I am pleased to hear that work has begun on this, and I look forward to welcoming further improvements to the cycleway in the future.”
