Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has been concerned that the consultation on price changes for the Corran ferry has created concern among the population.
They are particularly concerned about larger rises for infrequent users which may reduce tourist visits and could equally impact indigenous residents who use the ferry infrequently.
The suggestion of larger price rises for less frequent users contained in the consultation could mean that those who are limited in how often they are able to use the service, such as older people, will find it more difficult still.
Dave said: “While there seems to be an aim to limit price rises for those who use the ferry most frequently, it is important that we realise that some of those who use the service infrequently will nevertheless rely on it.
“A trip to the doctors or dentist, or a weekly shopping trip are absolutely vital to older people in Ardgour, Morvern and Ardnamurchan.
“It is unfortunate that these suggestions are being presented by some as a concrete proposal when in fact they were a part of a consultation. However, it is important that a thorough public consultation is conducted on these proposals to fully ascertain what the impact will be on the communities.”
