Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has today welcomed the news that the West Highland Free Press has been praised in the recent report from the Carnegie UK Trust entitled “Make Your Local News Work”.  It has been raised up as a shining example of how locally produced newspapers should be run in order to prevent such publications from completely disappearing.

Commenting on this Mr Thompson said: “In the four years since the employees of the West Highland Free Press bought the business, it has gone from strength to strength and is now a very well respected voice in the Western Highlands.

“I welcome the news and the praise from the Carnegie Report.  This is fantastic and well deserved praise for all who work hard to ensure that the West Highland Free Press is a highly respected and well circulated community-owned newspaper.
