Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has today (Monday) welcomed the news that Daniel Leaver from the Isle of Eigg has been awarded funding of £2825 from the Social Entrepreneurs Fund to help set up the Highland Larder.
The Highland Larder is a social enterprise that aims to connect remote rural communities through affordable food in the hope of addressing the issues of isolation. The enterprise aims to bring local people together by providing pop-up restaurants in village halls and local cafes across Eigg and the wider Ardnamurchan area.
Commenting on this, Dave said: “This is fantastic news for Daniel and the Highland Larder.
“Although there are fine hotels in the local area, they tend to cater towards the tourist trade and locals may find them a wee bit on the expensive side.
“This is a fresh new idea and I welcome the news that the Social Entrepreneurs Fund has awarded Daniel some well needed and deserved finance to help him along the way.
“I look forward to hearing of the Highland Larder in the future and hopefully sampling some of the delicious food that I am sure will be on offer.”
